I am filling out an application for a Christian school and one of the questions is "List any skills or qualifications you have." I have my degree, but so do the other candidates. Can someone please give me some examples of skills and qualifications that might help me stand out?

For skills: Have you had any paid or volunteers positions at your church? Have you worked with students in settings other than the classroom (sports teams, camp, scouting, choir, youth group)? For qualifications: Have you taken any training that resulted in qualifications/credits/certificates? Have you been an active member of a church?

I wouldn't think you need to have an extensive list, perhaps 1 or 2 extra skills. I'm not sure that this one question will be a make or break question on the application, either, but all questions as a whole will be evaluated. I agree with Upsadaisy's suggestions. I might also add various abilities that might be applicable to a classroom or school situation, such as playing an instrument, reading music, or singing; special interests in science, nature (perhaps bird watching), computer skills; sewing....activities and interests such as that. Typing speed might be a plus, too; keyboarding is becoming a standard that elementary schools need to meet. Another thought just crossed my mind--did your internship provide experience with the same curriculum that this particular school uses? That might be a plus. Also, perhaps your extra courses in college were in strategic areas of expertise, such as cosmology, children's literature, a foreign language (Spanish, Chinese, or ASL would be a definite plus). Part time jobs also can be a plus--some jobs give a teacher special insights and skills. My hobby of writing was an influence in my hiring.

Agree with what's been mentioned and wanted to emphasize computer skills. For my school, it's really useful to be proficient with the various Google apps. We also have Smartboards. If your training included those skills, I would note them.
